A nice, relaxing day in Sanur. I did consider going out to see something nearby, but most of the sights in Bali I’ve already visited over the past week, and for the others, the travel distance is simply too far for a quick round trip. Instead, I enjoy a leisurely breakfast. I take a dip in the pool, and by late morning I head to the beach for a delicious cappuccino. I settle into a beanbag under a small umbrella. I have a wonderful view of the beach and the bright blue water—a true little paradise. I walk along the path heading west. Yesterday, I went in the other direction. The paved path along the beach passes all the restaurants and hotels here as well. To the west, there are a few very large hotels. As I continue walking, I see more and more local eateries until I finally reach a parking lot at the end.
I must have walked several kilometers along the beach. I return to the hotel via the Main Street. I imagine few tourists walk this far; several taxi drivers honk, asking if I need a ride back. Even though it’s the middle of the day and the sun is strong, I continue walking. I arrive back at the hotel at three o’clock. I order a beer, a spring roll, and fries to be delivered to the pool. The staff are busy putting up decorations—the hotel is celebrating its 20th anniversary today. Around the pool, there’s a banner, decorated tables, and music playing. I’m curious about what will happen tonight. Around six o’clock, the music starts. Various guests have gathered to celebrate the hotel’s birthday. I leave the party and head to the beach. Tonight is the last evening that our whole group is together. We all have dinner on the beach—a beautiful location with a view of the dark sea. At the end of the meal, we thank Karin for guiding the trip. Although it’s already past ten when I leave the restaurant, I go back to Bar Casablanca with some fellow travelers. Tonight there is live music again. The band plays solid rock—a great band with excellent music. When they finish their last song of the evening, I return to my hotel. It’s past midnight.
