Ireland - At May 1st it will be exactly ten years since Allert, Milko, Wilco, and I began our world trip to Tokyo. Normally, we celebrate this every year on May 1st with dinner at a Japanese restaurant. This year, because of the second lustrum, we decided to spend a weekend in Dublin.

Belgium - A weekend getaway to the Belgian city of Hasselt. Enjoying a beer on a terrace and wandering through the relatively small city center of Hasselt. On the way back home, we also visited Baarle-Nassau and Baarle-Hertog.

Spain - A tour through the south of Spain. With visits to cities such as Ronda, Cádiz, Seville, Córdoba, Granada, and Málaga, this is a wonderful journey to discover Andalusia. Naturally, Gibraltar was also included in the itinerary.

Austria - A week of winter sports with friends in Kössen, Austria. On the journey there, I made a stop at Augustusburg Castle. On the return trip, Wilhelmshöhe Palace in Kassel was an ideal stopover.

Netherlands - A weekend away with the family at the holiday park in Hellevoetsluis. Including a visit to the historic center of Hellevoetsluis and an excursion to the nearby town of Brielle.

Singapore - We start the new year with a cruise from Singapore to Hong Kong. We sail for a week aboard the Costa Serena. Beforehand, we spend a few days in Singapore to explore Marina Bay, Chinatown, and Gardens by the Bay. After that, we embark on the cruise. Via Brunei and the Philippines, we arrive in Hong Kong a week later. Here we visit Victoria Peak and take a trip to Macau.

Monaco - It is delightful to wander through the narrow streets of Nice’s old town. From the Colline du Château there is a sweeping view over the city and the boulevard, the Promenade des Anglais. On the road to Monaco lies the medieval hill village of Èze. From the village there are magnificent views. The small mountain state of Monaco is only one by three kilometers in size. On the Rock of Monaco stand the Prince’s Palace and the cathedral. On the other side of the harbor lies the luxurious district ...

Algeria - Algeria is the largest country in Africa. Most of the population lives in the mountainous north. The rest of the country is mostly desert. In the coastal region, the Berbers already lived before the start of the Common Era. In the second century, the region became part of the Roman Empire. Later, Algeria became part of the Ottoman Empire. In 1830 the French invaded, remaining until independence in the 1960s. Armenia - Nicolette and I begin our journey through Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Armenia, exploring the stunning landscapes, vibrant cities, and rich cultural heritage of the South Caucasus. From the modern skyline and historic streets of Baku to ancient fire temples and the Gobustan rock carvings, every stop offers a glimpse into history. We cross borders into Georgia, following the scenic Military Highway to Kazbegi and visiting unique churches like Gergeti Trinity. Along the way, we discover local traditions, ...

Romania - A week-long road trip through Romania with a rental car. From the capital Bucharest, we drive via the impressive Transfagarasan mountain pass to Alba Iulia, Turda, and Cluj-Napoca. On the eastern side of the Fagaras Mountains, we reach the castles of Bran, Pelisor, and Peles via Sighisoara. The journey ends back in Bucharest.

Serbia - From the church, we walk across the wooden bridge into the Kalemegdan Fortress. From the tower, there’s a beautiful view of the city and the Danube River. Under the trees of the fortress, we enjoy an ice cream. Afterwards, we exit the walled fortress on the other side. We descend to the bank of the Sava River. This river flows into the Danube.

China - China is best known for the Forbidden City, the Great Wall, and the Terracotta Army in Xi’an. During the trip from Beijing to Hong Kong, I also explored lesser-known areas such as the monasteries of Labrang and Langmusi, and cities like Shangri-La, Lijiang, and Dali. In Yangshuo, I ended my China adventure with a bamboo raft ride through the karst mountains, before spending the final days in Hong Kong.

Indonesia - Compared to Java and Bali, the Lesser Sunda Islands are far less touristy. This gives islands like Flores, Sumbawa, and Lombok a unique charm. On Komodo Island, the famous Komodo dragons roam. These giant lizards can grow up to three meters long. The journey ends on the delightful island of Gili Air, one of the three Gili Islands.

Mexico - Since the fifth century, the Maya lived on the Yucatán Peninsula until they were displaced by the Spanish. The impressive ruins still provide a glimpse into what the Maya civilization must have looked like. The temples of Chichén Itzá, Uxmal, Palenque, and Tulum are each unique and fascinating to visit.

Curacao - Two weeks on the AIDA Perla cruise, visiting the most beautiful islands in the Caribbean. From Barbados to Dominica, Saint Lucia, and Saint Kitts and Nevis. Then sailing westward past the Dominican Republic to Aruba, Bonaire, and Curaçao. The journey ends in Grenada, before flying home via Barbados.
