1425 February 2009 (12 days)
At 1:30 PM, we board the train at Voorhout station to travel via Leiden to Schiphol. We check in with Royal Jordanian and pass through customs. In the Amsterdam café, we have a beer while waiting to board. The plane takes off at 5 PM from the polder runway. On the flight, we notice a Dutch celebrity on board as well. Prem is traveling with his family, sitting four rows ahead of us. He is also going on vacation to Jordan.
On the plane, we get acquainted with some fellow travelers, and our tour leader Erik is also on board. While I’m eating the meal, it slowly gets dark outside. At 10:10 PM local time (+1 hour), the plane lands in Amman. In the arrivals hall, we are met by a local agent. While we wait for our luggage, he takes care of stamping our passports with the group visa, which makes the process go very smoothly. At the airport, we withdraw some Jordanian dinars and then take the bus to our first hotel, located in Madaba, about a forty-five-minute drive from the airport. It is around midnight when we arrive. The bar is already closed, so with just a bottle of water, we head up to our room.
