We take it easy this morning. At nine o’clock, we sit down for breakfast. Coffee, a croissant, and a cheese sandwich. At ten, we load the luggage into the car. We are allowed to leave the car on the hotel grounds until two o’clock. After that, we have to make room for new guests. That should be doable. We don’t need an exit token. The barrier seems to be malfunctioning and is open. Much easier that way. At the Noordereiland, we walk into the park along the canal. The canal follows the star-shaped quay of the old city. Because of this shape, the city was well protected in earlier times. We pass the Librije. Restaurant De Librije is a three-star restaurant, which is the highest recognition a restaurant can receive in the world-famous Michelin Guide. At the former Diezerpoort, we walk back into the old city center. Here there is still a small piece of the city wall. We walk through Ter Pelkwijkpark and continue to follow the canal.
After passing the Sassenpoort, we arrive at the Museum de Fundatie. We are a bit early. The museum opens at eleven. In the adjacent Villa Suikerberg, we order coffee. Museum de Fundatie houses a diverse and extensive collection of visual art, ranging from old masters to contemporary artists. The collection includes paintings, sculptures, graphic works, and other forms of modern and contemporary art. We view the paintings on the ground floor and the modern art on the upper floors. Perhaps the oval dome is the funniest element of the museum. After about an hour, we have seen enough art. We cross the Blijmarkt and enter the Herman Brood Experience. A museum about the life of this iconic musician. The museum displays personal belongings and paintings of the artist. A nice way to conclude a weekend in Zwolle. We return to the Campanile hotel. We get into the car and leave the city.
