1992 (28 days)
We get up around half past nine and pack our luggage. At eleven o’clock, we leave for the bus. At the station, we store our bags. We head into Prague in search of T-shirts and CDs. We decide to split up for a while and meet up later, so everyone can go at their own pace. One CD and one T-shirt are the results. About fifteen minutes late, Ron and I arrive. Sandra and Monique are writing postcards and don’t mind the delay. On our way to Vyšehrad, the second castle of Prague, we quickly duck into the familiar McDonald’s. Once again, we’re eating so healthily on this trip.
Afterwards, we take the tram to Vyšehrad. At the top of the fortress, there is a church, part of the old palace, and a grassy area to play cards. After playing cards, we continue along the castle wall, enjoying a beautiful view over Prague. Here, we decide to have a meal at a small restaurant. There is no English menu, but the owner manages to translate a few things. For dessert, we ask for the bill first. That turns out to be a good idea because we are out of money. We pay and take the tram back to the city center. It’s just before nine when we get off near the tall observation tower. This tower is on the other side of the city, close to our hotel. Ron and Monique climb the hill in the dark to reach the tower. Sandra and I wait behind. The funicular is already closed. Ron and Monique are gone for about twenty minutes. The view is said to have been beautiful. Once again, we take the tram and metro to Místek for a drink. Around eleven o’clock, we head back to the station to pick up our luggage. Then we realize we are at the wrong station. It is now midnight, and we quickly take the metro to the correct station. The train is already waiting. On the train, we find two empty compartments. Ron and I quickly turn off the lights and pretend to sleep when other passengers approach. Sandra and Monique, however, turned off the lights just a bit too late and ended up with three Italians in their compartment, as we heard the next day. We fall asleep comfortably and, once again, are lucky with the trains.
