Italy > Farewell to Rome

I had still planned to take a walk in the Villa Doria Pamphili park, which is located in the neighborhood behind the hotel. We are being picked up at eleven o’clock for transport to the airport. However, last night I decided to set my alarm a little later and have a leisurely breakfast instead. Most of my fellow travelers have chosen this scenario as well. After breakfast, I pack my small suitcase and check out at the reception. In the lobby, I wait until the bus arrives. I conclude that I have been able to admire many beautiful sights in Rome, and the city has left a good impression on me. What a difference compared to thirty years ago, when I thought Rome was nothing more than a collection of old stones. Rome is a world city. It’s only logical that there are so many tourists. On the other hand, the sheer scale of tourism is also a pitfall. On the way to the airport, Harry, the senior member of the group, thanks Sandra for her tour leading. Sandra, in turn, thanks us for being such a cooperative group. After checking in and going through baggage control, I lose sight of the group. I stroll past the shops and order a sandwich.

Italy - Ready to fly home again

The boards show that the flight is delayed. It appears to be a planned delay, as the departure time has even been adjusted. As a result, the flight is still listed as “on time” on the boards. Patiently, I wait until I can board flight AZ110. I am seated almost at the back, together with most of my fellow travelers. Shortly after five o’clock, the plane lands back in Amsterdam. At the baggage carousel, I say goodbye to all my travel companions. I board the train on my way home.
