Travelogue Road Trip Germany and Switzerland

Germany > Farewell Monschau

Dag 16 - Sunday 30 August 2020

The alarm goes off, and immediately the church tower next to our accommodation begins to ring. We slept wonderfully in Monschau. Outside it is still chilly—only six degrees. During our entire trip, it hasn’t been this cold at night before. Fortunately, breakfast is already laid out inside the B&B downstairs. A generous setting. It will be an adjustment later when we have to prepare breakfast ourselves at home.

Germany - The square in the small center of Monschau

After breakfast, we take one last walk through the streets of Monschau. The streets are quiet. A few shops are just opening their doors; others remain closed on Sunday. The first day-trippers begin to arrive. Another day full of tourists is about to start. We don’t wait for them. We say goodbye at the B&B and walk back to the car. We set the navigation for ‘home’ and drive back via Aachen, Eindhoven, Breda, and Rotterdam. We arrive home at two o’clock. The trip through Germany and Switzerland was amazing. We both feel like we’ve been on vacation much longer. That’s always a good sign.
