Dag 17 - Thursday 6 February 2025

We’re awake even before the alarm goes off. Around eight o’clock, we head to breakfast. From people’s clothing, it’s easy to tell who is leaving the ship today and who isn’t. I’m wearing my jeans too. At half past nine, we leave the cabin and thank Saw for taking such good care of us over the past two weeks. He cleaned the cabin every day. In the port terminal, we look for our suitcases among all the luggage with a green label—this is the baggage bound for Düsseldorf. We check in with our suitcase. Funny that this can already be done at the port. The boarding pass and luggage tag are already printed and ready with our names. After checking in, we return to the ship.

Barbados - One of the beautiful older buildings in Bridgetown, Barbados

We bring our hand luggage to the storage area on deck six. At the bar, we order coffee. Our transfer to the airport is scheduled for two o’clock. This means we still have time to walk into the capital of Barbados. We were here last year too. We stroll along the waterfront into town. Dozens of times we are asked if we need a taxi or want to take an island tour. We pass the beautiful colonial building of an insurance company, walk through the shopping street, and arrive at the Parliament building. A tour is available for five dollars. However, we don’t really have enough time for that. We continue on to St. Michael’s Cathedral. On the way back, we misjudge the time. We’ve made a one-hour mistake, so we return to the ship earlier than planned. This gives us time to have a drink on the top deck.

Barbados - An old Concorde stands in the departure hall of Barbados

After a simple lunch, we retrieve our hand luggage and head to the exit. Several buses are already waiting. In about 45 minutes, we reach the airport. We are dropped off at the Concorde Hall, which is specially designated for cruise passengers. In the center of the hall stands a Concorde airplane—that’s where the hall gets its name. What an impressively large and unique aircraft. Because several flights are departing, it’s a bit unclear which one is boarding. Our flight is delayed; the aircraft isn’t ready yet, they say. A later flight to Frankfurt boards ahead of ours. Not everyone realizes this, so it takes a while for all passengers to board. With a one-hour delay, boarding finally begins for our flight. After the meal on board, I try to get some sleep.
