By half past six, we are already having breakfast at the hotel. A fine buffet. When we check out, the Yellow bus is already waiting in front of the hotel. The driver waits until we are ready. How courteous. We had actually planned to take the next shuttle to the airport, but better early than late. At the airport, we check in for the flight to Guangzhou and Amsterdam.
The luggage is tagged straight through to the final destination. We still have 34 New Zealand dollars to spend. Along with a cappuccino, we use the remaining money on chocolates. At ten o’clock, flight CZ 336 of Southern China Airlines takes off for an eleven-hour flight to Guangzhou. It’s not much better than before. Although it’s a daytime flight, I try to get some sleep. Every hour of rest counts over the next 24 hours. I also watch a few movies. Just after four in the afternoon, the plane begins its landing in China. I am only halfway through. Walking through the empty departure hall of Guangzhou, we decide not to wait here for eight hours. We order two tickets for the lounge area. This allows us to wait in a comfortable armchair, with free Wi-Fi and unlimited food and drinks. Time doesn’t pass faster, but the wait is much more comfortable. Around half past eleven in the evening, we board the last flight of this vacation.
